Samsung D7000 Series
3D LED Television Review
UE40D7000
UE46D7000
UE55D7000
The Samsung D7000 television series which incorporates
the UE40D7000 ,
UE46D7000 and UE55D7000 follows on from Samsungs previous LED range.
With
stunning styling that pushes the boundaries of design and technology.
The
set we reviewed was the Samsung
UE40D7000.

The 5mm clear bezel that surrounds the screen this TV D7000 is
almost none
existent allowing the television to be all about the screen and no
other
distractions, this will make the TV perfect for wall mounting. This
leads
us to the actual physical size of the UE40D7000 being comparable
to the
previous year’s 37 inch LCD model, potentially you will be
able to fit a
larger TV in the same space. If you’re looking at a 42” Plasma
television
there is a potential to upgrade to the UE46D7000 LED model.
To add to the stunning bezel design of this LED television Samsung
have
also managed to keep up with the amazingly thin depth of just 24mm.

As with any LED television the colour clarity is outstanding and
an extra
level of vividness that was not present in last year’s models,
this is due
to Samsungs LED micro dimming technology. This enables the TVs to
reach
levels not seen before in any preceding LED. The UE40D7000 has
outstandingly rich black levels without losing any contrast, the
colours
this can produce enables more natural tones and skin textures. The
viewing
angles are perfect for family watching as the image can be seen from
almost
any position, up to 178˚ with almost no panel bleed.
The set incorporates 3D viewing not only from a 3D source but the
TV also
has a 2D to 3D upscale element that is accessed via a dedicated button
on
the remote. The upscale feature is an excellent addition when watching
any
sport or movie giving that extra dimension to normal viewing. When
watching
the UE40D7000 with a 3D Blu-Ray source the leaps taken over earlier
LED
models are a step in the right direction, the images are smoother
and the
flickers are less prominent.
Incorporated in the set is not only a Freeview HD
Tuner (T2) but a new
addition to the UE40D7000 the other LED panels in the D7000 range
is a
Freesat HD Tuner. Both tuners performed well under our rigorous testing.

In past LED models the sound has always been a slight problem due
to the
physical space allocated to the speakers. Speaker technology has
not
differed greatly over the last 10 years so including this in such
a slim TV
has been difficult. A new addition that really impressed on testing
was the
3D sound feature, which seems to project the sound in the direction
of the
3D image. The Samsung UE40D7000 has improved over previous generations,
add
to this the 3D sound and Samsung are moving in the right direction.

The Smart Hub that has been introduced is a key feature of the
Samsung
range, this incorporates Samsungs apps. There are numerous apps
pre
installed on the TV including, Facebook, Twitter and Picasa with
new apps
being added daily. There is also a dedicated web browser included
in the
Smart Hub, this is able to browse any website including flash
based sites.
Although this will not replace your PC, as the input method is via
the
standard numeric remote control, it is an amazingly impressive new
feature.
The D7000 Series enables connection of a flash drive via USB, this
means
programs can be recorded directly onto the drive for future playback.
Personal images and videos can also be viewed from the USB drive
which
supports numerous codec’s. Included in most of this year range
is Samsungs
allshare technology which allows streaming from a PC or compatible
mobile
device to you TV wirelessly which is a feature that is quite underused
but
we feel an important feature.
